Europe
Shahabad limestone for European trade buyers
For importers, distributors and contractors across Europe who want Indian limestone finished at the quarry yard and shipped as a clear commercial order — sized, packed and documented for cross-border trade.
Market
Buying finished stone across European markets
European natural stone trade spans many languages and building cultures, but the commercial pattern for an imported limestone floor or pavement is familiar: a distributor or contractor needs a repeatable colour, a named finish, metric sizes, and paperwork that customs and the receiving yard can read without guesswork. Shahabad limestone is cut, honed and polished at our own yard in Karnataka, which suits buyers who prefer to receive finished pieces rather than organise secondary processing after arrival.
The stone itself is a fine-grained limestone from the Kalaburagi belt, long used for flooring and paving in India. Outside India it is less known than sandstone, which is useful commercially if you are looking for a limestone line that does not already saturate every showroom. Cool grey and blue-grey beds suit contemporary interiors and quiet external schemes; the yellow bed brings warmth and a noticeable wet colour shift that should be shown on sample; the reddish bed is a feature colour and less common, so continuity should be discussed early on phased work.
Metric thinking is the default. Thicknesses are ordered in millimetres — we offer 20mm, 30mm, 40mm and 50mm with ±1mm thickness tolerance — and formats are cut to schedule at the yard. Large sheets are available subject to bed; modular sizes can be cut where a project or stock line needs them. Do not assume a supplier’s “standard tile” matches another origin’s module until dimensions are written on the quote.
Specification
Specification language that travels
Finish words do not always mean the same thing from one country to another. Natural, honed, polished and brushed should be tied to a physical sample and then repeated on the purchase order in the same wording. External pedestrian surfaces usually want texture; internal floors more often want a controlled honed face; polished faces are for dry interiors. If a specification cites a product standard or a test method, tell us which document and which property matter for the job. Technical data for this material is available on request — we publish no invented figures here and we do not claim a blanket conformity mark for every market.
Commercial terms should be explicit. We quote to your nearest port or delivered to your yard, on request. State whether you are buying for bonded stock, for a named project, or for mixed palletisation across several sites. Packing lists, commercial invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin and phytosanitary declarations for treated timber crates are part of the normal export sequence described on our export pages. Agree marking language in advance if your warehouse system needs particular codes on the crate.
Colour control is sample-led. Approve a piece from current stock, keep a reference, and expect natural sedimentary variation within that approval rather than perfect uniformity across every crate. For large European stock programmes, it is worth agreeing how mixed beds or graded colour lots should be labelled so your sales team can sell honestly. When in doubt, ask for more samples from the beds under discussion before the order is locked.
If you are comparing Shahabad against another limestone already on your list, compare finish and thickness first, then colour. Two stones that look similar on a dry showroom board can behave differently once laid, cleaned and walked on. Our stone pages for each bed, together with the finishes and technical-data pages, are the right internal references before you send a schedule for pricing.
Terminology
Words buyers use in this market
Natural / honed / polished / brushed
Yard finishes. Confirm each against a sample; do not translate a local trade nickname without checking the face.
Thickness tolerance
We state ±1mm on offered thicknesses. Write the tolerance into the order if your fixing system depends on it.
Cut to schedule
Pieces sized at our yard to your list rather than only offered as a single stock module.
Declaration / technical data
Project paperwork naming properties or methods. Ask specifically; results are available on request where they exist for the bed and finish.
Packing list / crate marking
Line-by-line contents matched to marks on the crate — essential for European warehouse intake.
Port or yard delivery
Quotations available to your nearest port or delivered to your yard, on request — say which you need when you enquire.
