The bed and how it behaves

This colour is traded as Shahabad Blue Limestone, often shortened by buyers to Shahabad Blue. The Tandur Grey, Dove Grey and Tandur Yellow names belong to other colour selections from the same wider limestone belt, so an order for blue material should state Shahabad Blue clearly.

Shahabad limestone has been used for flooring and paving across India for generations. It is fine-grained, splits cleanly along its natural bedding, and takes both a natural face straight off the bed and a smooth honed or polished face in the yard. The blue bed is the coolest tone in the range, reading close to a soft blue-grey once laid.

Two faces cover most work. Natural is the split face, used for external paving and terraces. Honed gives an even matt surface for internal floors, hallways and commercial circulation. Cutting, honing and polishing all happen at our own yard in Karnataka.
